1st December  2018: Mike's 80th BirthdayDance

(clips and photos below)

I think it is fair to say that Mike had a fantastic party dance to celebrate his 80th birthday.  He was really overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness and all the surprises which we had managed to keep secret from him.  Mulepackers presented him with a Native American headdress.  He had absolutely no idea about this and was almost speechless.  Ray then came on stage and presented him with a personalised birthday cake with market garden and an owl on his arm.  The attention to detail on this cake; even the waistcoat, the tie pin, confederate flag and uniform colours…  is phenomenal.  Glenn Rogers, the singer, was very entertaining and has a lovely deep voice.  He played “Dreamweaver” which we managed admirably! Glenn was very touched that we had all learned it. He also played “The Trilogy” at the end for Mike.  Kerry, the DJ, played music between Glenn’s sets and we managed to get quite a lot of  our dances in. The hall was packed (so many of the larger school halls need to be booked a long time in advance especially at Christmas time) but the atmosphere was nonetheless fantastic.

The raffle made over £220 which was added to the total to donate to the Diabetes Fund.  Norman, who nominated the 2018 charity, has asked that the money be given locally, so a total figure of £1326 will be presented at Salisbury District Hospital on Weds 12th December.

We put names in a hat to choose a charity to support in 2019 and Julie’s name was pulled out.  In 2019 we will be raising funds for “Salisbury Hospice”

A huge thank you to everyone for making Mike’s party so special; for all those who set up and cleared away, those who donated generously to the raffle, those who organised the collection, card and all the balloons, those who arranged the collection of the headdress, for the cake and for all the good wishes.

Dancing to Souls 'n Stone at Whitchurch

28th July 2018: Charity Party Dance

Our charity party dance has raised £321 (after deducting hall hire) for our annual charity, Diabetes UK.  Thanks to everyone who supported the raffle by donating prizes and buying tickets.  We had a lovely American supper and more room for dancing at a new venue, Hampton Park Pavillion.  See below for photos ...

24th March 2018: Mel's 60th Birthday Dance

What a lovely evening!  Mike organised and hosted a birthday dance for Mel at South Wilts Grammar School hall with live artist, Chris Mezza.  There were about 75 of us there.  We had a fabulous American supper, plenty of dancing to Chris Mezza who played a lot of our line dances, and a large hall for partners and line to dance at the same time.  Although we didn't run this as a charity dance, you were all really generous making donations to our charity, Diabetes UK.  We had almost £120 in donations and the raffle made a further £202.  Our charity box currently stands at just over £570.  Thank you everybody.

Mel is still on a high with so many lovely messages, gifts and gestures.  Thanks firstly to Mike for providing such a lovely party, to Ray for the most amazing cake ever seen (pictures below), to Mulepackers generally for beautiful flowers, large amount of garden vouchers, and chocolates.  Special thanks to the partner class for the firing derringer! As always thanks to Paul and Nick for doing the raffle, those who stayed behind and helped to clear up, to our families for supporting us .. in fact too many thank yous to list here. x  See lots of photos and a compilation of some film clips below:

New Years Eve 2017 and Whitchurch January 2018

There are quite a lot of us now going up to Whitchurch once a month and finding that we can do a lot more dances to the live artist's music and Kerry's "disco".  If anyone wants to join us, we can sort out lifts/transport.  Let us know.  Mulepackers are now up there with clubs from other areas as regular supporters.  See photos of new Year's Eve dance and the January dance below.
