Visit from representatives of Parkinsons Uk Salisbury Branch

We were very pleased today to be able to present a cheque for £1300 to Parkinsons Disease to Louise and Ian from the Salisbury branch.  They told us how there is currently a trial underway in their search for a cure.  They also told us that the local branch has many activities to help people with Parkinsons to keep moving and exercise to promote co-ordination.  They might even ask us to visit at a branch meeting to introduce members to some line dancing activities.  See photos below ... the first one shows Chris and Shirley, whose charity nomination was chosen.  The second is some of our Monday afternoon line dancers.

2023

At our Christmas supper evening on 17th December 2022, Margaret's name was selected and she has chosen River Bourne Community Farm at Laverstock to support in 2023.  This is particularly nice as they allowed us the use of their large and well ventilated barn during the pandemic when we had to space out and have good (very cold) airflow.  Having looked at their website, you can see how they use donations ( some copied text below). In addition they support many educational projects and placements at the farm.

£5       Feeds two of our guinea pigs or one of our alpacas for a week
£10     Pays for hay to feed all the goats and sheep for a week
£50     Feeds all of our pigs for a fortnight.
£100   Pays for the farrier to come to trim the feet of all four donkeys
£250   Pays for bedding straw for ALL our animals for a whole year.
£500   Pays for preventive vaccines and worming treatments for ALL of our animals for a whole year

2022

We raised a huge amount of money this year, so were able to purchase our own defibrillator to take to the clubs and social dances, and then to support Parkinsons UK (Salisbury branch) - a choice made by Chris W.  We will shortly be presenting them with £1300.  Thanks to you all for the fund raising from dances, raffles, items for sale and private donations.

20th December 2021

Our 2021 charity was chosen by Margaret who asked for the funds to be given to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.  We were pleased to go up to Semington, the HQ of Wiltshire Air Ambulance, to be able to present a cheque for £1,000 to them.  Although Covid prevented us going into the building, we were able to make the presentation outdoors by their helicopter sculpture and to meet two of their staff.  As Margaret has the same Western shirt as us, we suggested she wear hers so we could all be idential triplets!  I know it is hard to tell who is who from the photos below.  Well done and thank you to everyone who has helped raise a significant amount in spite of Covid preventing us from holding our usual charity dances.

7th January 2021

As a result of the National Lockdown, we were unable to make a presentation in person at the Riding for the Disabled Centre, so we made a bank transfer to them for funds raised throughout 2020.  Here is their letter of thanks.  We hope at some stage to be able to visit them and meet the staff and volunteers who will benefit from the funds raised.

17th December 2019

Our 2019 charity was chosen by Julie who asked for the funds to be given to Salisbury Hospice.  She joined us along with Chris and Steph who helped run some Tuesday evening dancing  for the charity when Mike and Mel were absent. Mulepackers donated £1,250 to the hospice.

Pictured are L to R: Tamsin from Fund Raising at the Hospice, Chris, Steph, Mike, Mel and Julie.

Thanks to Julie for choosing the charity and for all those who contributed in different ways throughout the year.

12th December 2018

Our 2018 charity was chosen by Norman who asked for the funds to be given locally to support Diabetes.  We were pleased to donate £1,326 to the Stars Appeal, Diabetes Fund on 12th December 2018.  The Lead Nurse in the department advised us that they are likely to put the money towards an insulin pump which can be temporarily loaned out to their patients so they can try a pump out  personally before committing to purchasing their own pump at circa £3000.  Pictured are diabetic department staff, together with Bernard, Janet and Deborah from the local diabetes support group and Mike and Mel from Mulepackers.  Thank you Norman for choosing the charity and everybody for your contributions throughout the year. The money has gone to a really worthwhile local cause.

15th December 2017

Mulepackers were very pleased to be able to present a cheque for £1,053 to the Stars Appeal, Amesbury Ward Fund.  Elsie and David Spaven, who chose the charity for 2017, accompanied us.  (see photo above)David has had two knee replacements and has spent some time on the ward.

The new charity for 2018 was chosen from names in a hat at the Christmas dance on 23.12.17.  Norman's name was pulled out and he has chosen Diabetes  as Mulepackers Charity 2018.

13th December 2016

We were pleased to present a cheque to Salisbury Hospice Charity (£514) raised by Mulepackers CWDC in 2016.  See photo above.

December 2015

We are very pleased to have been able to donate £200 to Cancer Research UK on behalf of the Mulepackers clubs (see the letter in photos above).  Thank you everybody for making this possible.
